  Tsuyoshi Furutsu

You may have noticed a Japanese jazz guitarist and his band playing on the New York music scene... It’s Tsuyoshi Furutsu!  In the early 90s Tsuyoshi made his way onto the jazz and pop music circuit in Tokyo.  He came to the US after winning the Mazda Urban Jazz Contest and performing in the Parthenon Tama Jazz Festival in Japan.

Performing in New York City since the mid 90s, Tsuyoshi has been in demand at all kinds of venues.  His quartet has played at the legendary 55 Bar jazz club in Greenwich Village, as well as places like The Four Seasons Restaurant and The Museum of Natural History, among numerous other events.

A graduate of The New School University, Tsuyoshi also holds a Masters Degree from The City College in New York.  He has studied with jazz greats Ron Carter, John Pattitucci, Peter Bernstein and Gene Bertoncini.

As a private teacher Mr. Furutsu has many years of experience, and he has coached undergraduate jazz ensembles.  He has also performed and recorded his own compositions.  Tsuyoshi’s versatility can offer you a wide variety of styles to learn; from Classical and Bossa Nova, to Rock’n Roll and Jazz.
